Claudio Bernardo
Person — Roles : Choreographer, Dancer
Biography
Born in Fortaleza, Brazil, Claudio Bernardo studied dance in Fortaleza and São Paulo from the age of 15, making his debut with Victor Navarro's company in Rio de Janeiro. In 1986, he entered Mudra, the school directed by Maurice Béjart. He danced with Frédéric Flamand and with choreographers Nicole Mossoux, Patrick Bonté, José Besprosvany and Jacopo Godani, and founded the company As Palavras in 1995. Drawing his inspiration from literature, theater, music and the visual arts, the choreographer's work evokes the harshness and violence of human relationships, their place in the universe, and the consequences and symbolism of their behavior. With his capacity for distanced analysis of the different cultures that have made him who he is, he reveals a world between body and spirit that, through a mirror effect, reveals us.
