Maria Clara Villa Lobos
Person — Roles : Dancer, Choreographer
Biography
Born in Brazil, Maria Clara Villa-Lobos studied ballet and modern dance in Berlin. She was then selected for the first year of P.A.R.T.S, the dance school directed by Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker. She worked as a dancer for choreographers such as Rui Horta, Willi Dorner and Sasha Waltz and Les Ballets C. de la B before starting her own choreographic creation. Settled in Belgium since 1995, she founded her own company XL production in 2000, with which she created a series of shows that explore the excesses of consumer society, pointing out its excesses and failings with a sense of humor. Her work is generally characterized by a hybrid, playful approach to dance, sometimes combining video, text, song or the visual arts.
