This book, published in 1992 under the title *Black Looks: Race and Representation*, consists of twelve essays that have become classics, including “Eating the Other: Desire and Resistance,” “Selling Hot Pussy: Representations of Black Female Sexuality in the Cultural Marketplace,” "The Oppositional Gaze: Black Female Spectators," and others. Among the topics addressed are Black sexuality, the commodification of Black culture and history, masculinity, and the experiences of people of color within a capitalist patriarchy founded on white supremacy.
