At a time when paintings created by AI are selling for exorbitant prices, when music composed by AI is racking up millions of views on YouTube, and when novels and screenplays are pouring from the pen of AI, it is time to ask ourselves: "Can artificial intelligence produce authentic artists?" If we persist in denying AI software the possibility of emotional experience, of “I feel, therefore I am,” of a first-person experience, of social roots, of a purpose greater than life itself, it will likely be a long time before AI is accepted as an artist.
