Archives de la danse
Creators: Laurent Sebillotte
What traces does dance leave behind? What "heritage" do we preserve, and what about the archives left behind by its practitioners? This book offers a pragmatic approach to the questions raised by the challenges of "dance memory," based on the experience of 25 years of building a documentary heritage entirely devoted to this art form at the Centre National de la Danse (CND). This overview of the concepts, practices, and methodologies related to dance archives is accompanied by a catalog of the major exhibition Pièces distinguées, which, at the end of 2024, offered a paradoxical unveiling of some 285 archival fonds or private collections preserved at the CND. Added to this is a guide to these fonds, a valuable tool for enthusiasts and researchers alike. A whole landscape thus takes shape before the reader's eyes, combining traces of creative thought, reflections on pedagogy, and artistic and human experiences.
