Clear tears/ Troubled waters
Creators: Thierry Smits, Steven Brown, Maxime Bodson, Blaine Reininger, Luc Gering, Simon Siegmann
In this choreography, Thierry Smits expresses the nostalgia and sense of dereliction associated with our world in crisis, in which we struggle to imagine what the future might hold, so plagued is it by what we are losing, starting with hope. But the piece doesn't get bogged down in a dark, despairing vision of what the future might hold, thanks to the action of the seven dancers, who scramble across the stage to avoid the pitfalls scattered along their path, represented by ominous, moving, threatening columns of light that can be perceived as other dancing entities. The virtuoso performers express their dismay, but also their tenacity, to music played by musicians on stage, which both carries them and inspires them. They move towards what might be considered a utopian denouement and a new-found freedom.
