Fields
Creators: Julien Bruneau
As an expanse of land cultivated for growing crops, a field evokes sensual associations of smells, turned-over soil and exposure to the elements. In a sense, fields are the foundation of our entire sedentary civilization and the cultures it has spawned. At the same time, the field is the place where bodies fall in battle, the place where things perish. Interweaving strands of autobiography with mythological and cultural tropes, Julien Bruneau explores the field as a metaphor rich in meaning and possibility. How do we inhabit the fields and their furrows? How do their history and imaginary world pass through us? Like a dance on the page, Fields invites the reader to encounter, think about and feel our entanglement with space and place.
