Le syndrome ian

“The third installment, dedicated to exploring anonymous dance practices as they confront the concept of authorship, ‘the Ian Syndrome’ features memories of clubbing and nightlife. Neither a tribute nor a reenactment. 1979: my first night out at a disco. While the world was pulsing to the sound of disco and its followers’ undulating, haunting dance moves, England saw the birth of a dark, poetic music punctuated by electric, angular, and jerky bodies. Between solitude and community, what remnants of these (perhaps) contradictory bodies remain with me today, as we still try, come what may, to dance on the ruins of a night that has forever faded? “Le syndrome ian” brings together nine dancers in a collective vibration where the tempo shifts between the physicality of the sub-bass and melodic abandon, a filtered echo of Ian Curtis’s poetry.” Source: Christian Rizzo, May 2016.
