Thomas Hauert is a dancer and choreographer whose work has an intimate relationship with music, either the music itself or the musicality inherent in movement. In this solo, he dances in interaction with the baroque madrigal Si dolce èl tormento composed by Claudio Monteverdi on a text by Carlo Milanuzzi. Thomas Hauert interprets this musical poem of thwarted love as the expression of a conflict between the pleasure of having an ideal to reach and the torment of knowing that this ideal will never be reached - a tension that is the universal driving force of life, but which takes as many forms, as many interpretations, as there are individual visions of the "wonderland". In German, there is a word, almost untranslatable, to describe this passionate and yet painful feeling of unquenchable desire : Sehnsucht.
