The Dog Days Are Over - Extrait
Creators: Jan Martens
The Dog Days Are Over (2014) presents itself as a marathon lasting over an hour, in which eight dancers in a line trot tirelessly along minimal trajectories in space. Totally synchronized, the performers impassively follow one another in subtly different steps and rhythms. Inspired as much by contemporary clubbing practices as by repetitive folk dances, he isolates choreographic phrases and repeats them ad infinitum. The physically intense performance deflects the audience's usual expectations, for example of the effort - real but invisible to the spectator - inherited from classical dance.
