What The Body Does Not Remember - Extrait
Creators: Wim Vandekeybus
What the Body Does Not Remember is the manifesto of Wim Vandekeybus's approach. Composed of incessant movements by six dancer-actors in constant motion to percussive music, the choreography features impressive brick-throwing and catching in a frantic rhythm of running. Every movement is meticulously executed, as the danger is real for the dancers who, as the choreographer states, "owe their salvation only to the safety of their reflexes "*. The music by Peter Vermeersch and Thierry De Mey plays a key role in this instinctive theatricality, with brutal sounds that engage the dancers' bodies. Here, the choreographer develops an aesthetic of violence, a ferocious, raging dance with an acute sense of rhythm and composition. Throughout his career, and through his numerous films and stage creations, Wim Vandekeybus has worked to transform catastrophe into the elegance of emotion.
