Zouglou
Creators: Hippolyte Bohouo, Charlotte Fischer, Manou Gallo, Mick Lemaire, Johanna Daenen, Jody de Neef
This duet traces the journey of a man who, in his struggle, borrows from his entire generation the strength of a rhythm born for and during the struggle. Faced with a deaf dictatorial power, he sings, dances, speaks and ironizes (...). In Baule, 'zouglou' means 'dirt, rot, heap of dʼordures', reflecting the promiscuity in which Ivorian students lived on campus in the late 90s. Their voices rise and pass through a rhythm, a dance. A student music group seized on this revolt and wrote the very first song of this new movement, Zouglou.
