"October 20, 1968, Mexico City" is a choreographic journey that blends a tribute to sports with a political allegory. A production for all ages that brings local participants onto the stage alongside the artistic team. An ode to intergenerational connection between athletes, dancers, and seniors who come together around the symbolism of the hurdle. On October 20, 1968, at the Mexico City Olympics, a high jumper defied convention by performing an unprecedented move. After deliberation, the judges validated the jump. The 21-year-old American Dick Fosbury was crowned Olympic champion. This performance takes this iconic move as a choreographic allegory of transgression. Dancers, athletes, and seniors take turns in this piece that blurs the line between athletic gestures and dance movements. This performance is part of an intergenerational approach where performers, athletes from local track and field clubs, and seniors met prior to the show share the stage. Recording made during the world premiere at the Théâtre de la Balsamine, Brussels.
