Mutante
Creators: Pierre Larauza, Emmanuelle Vincent, Serge Payen
In a perpetual circular motion, a masked dancer moves across a museum pedestal, alternating between sculptural poses and movements in dialogue with live electronic music. Anonymous, she layers masks until she loses her sight, then removes her clothes one by one, revealing her body, before stepping off the pedestal, half-statue, half-animal. In this solo created in Vietnam, choreographers and visual artists Pierre Larauza and Emmanuelle Vincent continue their intermedia exploration between dance and visual arts, questioning the notion of sculpted movement. They collaborate on the sound design with the Franco-Vietnamese DJ DANG, who brings the noisy, bustling streets of Saigon to life on stage, layering his deep electronic beats over traditional music. "Mutante" draws inspiration from a distinctive Vietnamese urban practice in which women completely cover their faces and bodies while riding motorcycles to protect themselves from the sun and pollution. At nightfall, they unveil themselves, revealing liberated bodies. Pierre and Emmanuelle explore this emancipation through a choreography of veiling, opening a dialogue on the transformation of female identity. Blending contemporary movements with traditional Vietnamese dance, "Mutante" blurs the boundaries of traditional choreographic vision, transporting the audience on an aesthetic and socially engaged journey. Recording made as part of the Pays de danse festival in Liège.
