Urban Distortions
Creators: Pierre Larauza, Emmanuelle Vincent, Matthieu Ha, Guillaume Martigné, Teddy Chilla
"Urban Distortions" explores the clash of territories, speeds, and movements on different scales through the examination and interpretation of three cities: Hong Kong, Mtwapa (Kenya), and Brussels. We attempt to decipher the city—a system of urban reading and writing—with humor and a certain strangeness brought about by decontextualization. Singer/musician Matthieu Ha develops a wordless language through which he arrives at his countertenor voice in a musical style akin to minimalist and baroque music. Between performance and installation, the two facets of this dance project, with their divergent concerns, converge at the level of perceptual distortions.
