Biography
Born in 1967 in Switzerland, Thomas Hauert studied at the Rotterdam Dance Academy in the Netherlands and moved to Brussels in 1991. He worked with Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker, Pierre Droulers, David Zambrano and Gonnie Heggen before creating his own company, ZOO, in 1998. He is one of the rare choreographers in Belgium to have developed a composition technique that he teaches around the world. Using improvisation as a starting point, his company explores the relationship between the individual and the collective, revealing disorder in order and, on the other hand, the emergence of form in what seems shapeless. Music plays a key role in his performances as the costumes.
